Many Mac users have experienced or are experiencing the Mac Mail folders disappeared issue. The issue may be due to an accidental deletion of the Mail folder, an upgrade from macOS Mojave to latest macOS 10.15 Catalina, from High Sierra to Mojave, or from macOS Sierra to High Sierra. May 20, 2019 I had reported this issue to Apple a few years ago when OS X 10.7 Lion was the latest OS. Four years later, and the issue still is not resolved. I understand that this is a low priority, but it shouldn’t be a difficult bug to fix. Let’s see if macOS 10.13 will provide a fix. I also posted the issue in the Apple Developer Forum.
This problem can generally be fixed via the following process:
- Launch Terminal.app (go to Spotlight in the upper-right corner of the screen and type “Terminal”)
- At the command prompt, type: defaults delete com.apple.mail TableColumns then press return.
- Quit and relaunch Mail.app
